South Factory CD/DVD Mastering Services
Mastering Studio Rate - $85/hr.
- Precision sequencing of finished tracks for CD production masters including spacing, silencing unwanted sounds before and after individual tracks, reshaping fades, etc.
- Creative use of EQ, compression, limiting and phase-adjustment to help correct minor mix-related problems.
- Overall volume adjustment for "competitive" level
- Relative volume adjustment between songs to maintain a consistent output level.
- Use of Sonic "No-Noise" and other programs to eliminate hiss, hum, and other unwanted noises.
- Transfer and enhancement of older formats (reel to reel, LPs, cassettes, etc) to CD

Send us a CD with your mixes on it, tell us which 2 songs you want to hear, and we will master a portion of both songs and mail it back to you on CD. Include your contact info and a $5.00 bill with your CD to cover the cost of Priority Mail shipping back to you.
What you will get back is your song in its entirety but with the mastering process switching on and off. The first 45 seconds will be with the processing on, the next 45 seconds will be back to your un-mastered original mix. It will alternate this way over the whole song.
One last thing, DON'T SEND MP3 FILES!! We want full-bandwidth audio files only. MP3 files are truncated and are not suitable for professional mastering!

If you want your records to be enhanced or de-noised the normal studio rate of $85/hr applies. A typical LP takes about 2 ½ hours of time if we are doing sonic restoration.

Mastering covers a lot more that some of us realize. Most audio engineers are musicians, but most musicians are not audio engineers. Mastering engineers have a wide range of abilities. IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PROOFING:
All DVD authoring jobs Include software verification (proofing) and manual proofing by a human (yes, a Real Live Person). Our technicians will insert the master DVD into a DVD player connected to a TV and watch the entire video to ensure there are no authoring glitches. This service is included in the price of the FIRST DVD PROOF ONLY. If you have revisions to the DVD and require an additional DVD, then proofing will be billed at $35/hr. Unless you sign a waiver, proofing is required before any job is replicated or duplicated.
